Haha im not sure what i could tell you because we talked last week, I mean things are pretty much the same. Im still alive and doing good and all that. And i also wanted to wish Shaelyn Again a very happy birthday!! I miss you dear sister!! Dont cry for me because im crying for you haha.
But i just wanted to tell you about what happened after the phone call. So Usually when we call home here we call from a couples boarding using one of their computers. So after the call ended i walked out of the room where i was in and saw Elder and Sister Carlile sitting on their couch talking to each other when they saw me Sister carlile got up off the couch, walked over to me and said “Elder Payne, we have seen many missionaries call home, But you are the first one who we have heard bear their testimony to their families. You are a really great man.” At first i was thinking “ah man i wanted just the family to hear me” but later came to the decision that it was good that they heard it as well. We should never be ashamed of bearing our testimonies or letting every one hear us as we do so. Im just glad that all of you are doing great and that you are still strong haha.
I love you all and i hope you have a great week!!

So exciting news!! I was able to finish reading the book of mormon last week on like wednesday and have started reading the book of mormon again and also i have started to read the Doctrine and covenants for my first time!! It was really shocking to me how wicked and evil the lords chosen people got over time. Like i was to the point of being confused because they believed in Christ for three hundred plus years, Then they let a little pride creep in and it totally overthrew their entire civilization. Its probably a reminder to us in these days that if we are wicked then they Lord will either humble us through his almighty power or he will send something our way to utterly destroy us off the face of the land. I dont want either of these things to happen to me so ill keep the commandments. Haha its sad how simple they are to keep, once you are committed, yet there are people in the world who take the ten commandements as the ten creative suggestions. Again, truly saddening.
In reading the book of mormon again ive decided to mark everything that has to pertain to any of the three figures in the godhead. Its actually started to open my eyes to how much The B.O.M. talks about God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. I was reading in a student manual about the book of mormon and it said that there were 6.000 something verses and that it has over 3,000 references to christ! its pretty spectacular to me to hear that people claim to have read the B.O.M. and say that it says nothing about Christ and that we as a church are non-christian. If people would only open their eyes and soften their hearts they would see on the Very cover of the book the words Jesus Christ. Its craziness.
My companion and i had a pretty good week. It rained quite a bit again, but im actually starting to love it. Like it gets hot in the afternoon and then around three or four the rain clouds come in and start to pour. It doesn’t rain very much until the evening time, but the lightning and thunder are sometimes pretty terrifying. Thats one thing i absolutely love is seeing the lightning strikes even though they get pretty close and very loud.
Also yesterday I was able to stand in the circle to confirm the investigator whom we baptized last week. It was truly a great experience being able to feel the spirit and to know that this young man is well on his way to becoming a very strong and steadfast member in the ward. Hes even been able to bring his non member mother to church two weeks in a row! I was able to ask her the question if this meant that she was coming forever and she said “yes!” Its a very wonderful thing to view when you can start to see the changes that someone is making in their life. And its even better if Someone that they love has already given them the initial push into studying the gospel. We told him a few weeks ago that since he was getting baptized ahead of his mom, he could receive the priesthood and then baptize his mother! Haha he told us “Oh man… she would love that way too much!” Haha it was pretty great.
Also ive been told to ask at what time you want me to make the call home. They want to start making a schedule for all the elders phone calls home but i think ive neglected to ask in previous emails. Please correlate with the whole family because i would like to be able to see and talk with everyone who is available. So yeah!! PLease just let me know and then i can let the couples know.
Well… i just want to say that i love you all very much and am looking forward to the call home. I hope you all have a good week!!

Just an update on my book of mormon reading. Right now i am in 3 nephi 23 and i have the goal in mind to be done before christmas day. Its been a little challenging thus far, but i know it will be well worth it to finish it in time.
I havent seen or heard anything about the christmas parcel. Right now i am serving in what the missionaries here call “outer darkness” because it is so far away from the mission home. That is probably another reason why i havent seen it. We only get mail when someone take a trip to or from durban, so getting mail is far and in between haha.
This past week was kind of adventurous haha. We have been having some really bad thunder and lightning storms recently. They get to the point where they kill the power for the whole area in which we are staying. So it has become pretty usual to come home and find the power is off. When that happens we just close our day and go to bed hungry haha. It sucks a little bit but still its awesome.
Also this past week we had a baptism!! Leading up to the baptism there was a bit of drama going around. The young man who was getting baptised kept trying to choose people to baptise him, but people would either say they couldnt, or that they would be out of town for that sunday. but eventually we found someone who was willing to baptise him and things were finally going to run smoothly for the baptism. So preparing for the baptism my companion got the baptismal clothes ready for Thapelo (name of investigator getting baptised) Then after he finished folding up the clothes he went into his closet and pulled out another white shirt and his white pants. I was a little confused as to why he was doing this because we had the whole program set up but he had no part in it. I really didnt think anything else of it until we showed up at the chapel and found out that the man who agreed to baptise thapelo went away to visit some family. When we heard that my companion said “so thats why i had the thought to bring my clothes!” It was pretty cool! haha so the baptism went smoothly and thapelo was able to bear a powerful testimony of christ after the whole service. It was a good moment for his mother as well because as of yet we have been unable to teach her, but she showed up to her sons baptismal program. I feel confident in saying that she felt the spirit and now she will want to know why her son is so happy with the choice that he has made. It was really just a great day all around haha.
But thats pretty much it for this week!! im looking forward to the call home and seeing all your beautiful smiling faces! even if you arent beautiful ill still be happy to see your face!
I love you guys!!

Hey family!!Again i dont have much time this week to email so i will make it snappy!!!
This past week we had interviews with our mission president which is always a great experience. During my interview there was a super bad storm outside. During the middle of the interview the lightning started to get really crazy and it actually struck the steple of the chapel that we were in!! it blew out all the lights so we did the rest of the interview in the dark haha it was kind of cool.
During the interview President looked at his Ipad then looked back at me and said “you know what i find alarming about your situation elder payne is that for almost a year now you have only ever been a juniour companion. Yet when i look at you now i dont see someone who is supposed to be a juniour companion. I think that changes will come in the future and that you will be done with this whole juniour companion business.
It wasnt until sunday that i heard counsel that made sense as to why i have been a juniour comp. for so long. Our bishop was talking with me and my companion and he said “Before you can be a good leader, you have to be a good follower.” Not that i have been literally following my companion every where. I have made decision and put forth ideas that have helped out the areas in which i have been serving, But i guess technically i have been a follower for the past year. Maybe the Lord has something coming my way, but to be honest i dont really care if i get leadership on mission. All i want to do is be a regular missionary doing extraordinary work.
I hope you all have a good week!! I love you all!!
